After two days in Amsterdam exploring the city and its exceptional museums and cultural activities, we will board a boat for the remainder of the trip. The peninsula making up the province of North Holland is the focus of this bike/boat tour. After leaving the city center of Amsterdam for the countryside, we'll ride via Marken, where some of the old houses are built on poles and to the fishing village of Volendam, where traditional Dutch costumes are still worn. We will travel to the quiet picturesque harbor of Enkhuizen and to the island of Texel, a vacationer's dream with 80 km of foot and bike paths and white sandy beaches. Next, we'll travel to the famous cheese town of Alkmaar and on to the Zaanse Schans in Zaandam where the large Open Air Museum authentically depicts Dutch life during the 17th and 18th centuries. We will finish the tour back in Amsterdam.

The Standard Plus class of ships come equipped with cabins with bunk or twin beds, private shower/toilet in all cabins, hot and cold (drinkable) water, central heating, bed sheets, pillow, towels. Each ship has a saloon/dining room and a sun deck/bicycle deck. Most cabins are double cabins, but there are some with 3- and/or 4-person cabins. Generally ships hold between 15 to 30 participants. If a ship is available and we have 12-14 women registered by the end of November we may be able to charter our own ship.

BIKING INFORMATION:
Biking in the Netherlands is a way of life with extensive bike trails on level ground. This trip is considered an easy trip with average daily distances of ± 30 miles on flat terrain and good asphalt roads with little or no traffic. You also have the option of lengthening or shortening the day's distance. The guide helps you in choosing alternative routes.
