After
two days in Amsterdam exploring the city and its exceptional
museums and cultural activities, we will board a boat for
the remainder of the trip. The peninsula making up the province
of North Holland is the focus of this bike/boat tour. After
leaving the city center of Amsterdam for the countryside,
we'll ride via Marken, where some of the old houses are built
on poles and to the fishing village of Volendam, where traditional
Dutch costumes are still worn. We will travel to the quiet
picturesque harbor of Enkhuizen and to the island of Texel,
a vacationer's dream with 80 km of foot and bike paths and
white sandy beaches. Next, we'll travel to the famous cheese
town of Alkmaar and on to the Zaanse Schans in Zaandam where
the large Open Air Museum authentically depicts Dutch life
during the 17th and 18th centuries. We will finish the tour
back in Amsterdam.
